What we do and how you can help

How we can help the visually impaired

I have recently joined a new organisation called Blind Independence Greenwich, as the name suggest we’re a charity whos aim is to help those who unable to see at all, as well as those who suffer from failing eyesight.

What we do

Formed in 1877, we have been providing assistance to those in the Greenwich borough and localised area for their everyday needs such as providing support for tasks such as reading their letters and guiding them to the shops. As well as this we offer people a place to go at regular intervals so they can feel like part of a community and not isolated in their own homes.

Our Events

Here at B.I.G we provide many events which can include fundraisers or amazing trips for those who use our services. We also hold our highly esteemed Coffee mornings twice a month where were everyone gets a chance to meet their friends and be cared for for any needs that they have.

Our Aim

We strive to help everyone in greenwich who suffer from sight loss as well as all those who require our services from outside the borough. To do this we have to build our charity to help recruit staff and buy all the equipment that we give to our service users free of charge. We hold many events that raise money and would like make everyone aware of this so if people are interested they can volunteer or come to the events we hold

Our Website

All the information about our charity can be found at http://www.blindindependencegreenwich.org.uk/ You can find our events we’re holding, how you can volunteer and how you can help us help our community by donating!

Thanks for reading

Quiz Night at the Kings Arms

Our First Quiz night at the Kings Arms in King William Walk, Greenwich, took place last night and we successfully raisied £114.35 which means that our musical workshop for our blind and partially signted service users can now go ahead.

We have been very lucky that the Kings Arms are willing to do a quiz night for us on a weekly basis every tuesday night to help us raise money, it kicks off 8pm and all money raised will go toward helping blind and partially sighted people in the greenwich borough.

A BIG Thank You to everybody who made last night possible and everyone that turned up to support us.
